War Pigs
Call me dense, but I just now realized that we let the fox slip into the hen house. I feel so stupid for somehow not making the connection before. I knew that the war was bad for so many reasons, but I somehow never saw why it’s happening. All the information was in my head, but it never clicked. Have I been asleep for four years?
We elected a representative of the military-industrial complex and the oil industry (i.e. Dick Cheney) into the White House. He has managed to create long term conflict in Iraq so that the war pigs can gorge themselves at the expense of complacent American tax payers but more importantly at the cost of American blood and far, far too many of our brothers and sisters in Iraq.
If things turn out well, the corporate puppet masters will be in control of the oil supply in Iraq. If not, oh well. Just a few lives wasted. At least they got to line their pockets along the way. Am I just being paranoid?
If I see things correctly, Dick et al. are working right about now to start war with Iran so that the war mongers can look forward to years of juicy conflict in the Middle East that we can’t extricate ourselves from long after we finally give the Bush the boot, no matter who we elect. How did we let things get so far?
Fuck!

Damn straight.
Maybe something to do with the other ‘F’ words: ‘fear’ and ‘fantasy’
Yeah.

Our fear puts power in the hands of those who want to control us. I remember thinking “I’m not clear why we need to invade Iraq, but if you say so. We need to neutralize those who attacked us so it can’t happen again.”
Never again.

OK, maybe I’ve been quiet too long, and maybe I’ll get shot down for my moronic views, but here goes. This is the truth that I perceive.
This has been going on for longer than we’ve been alive. The United States of America is in a constant position to rule and police the world. It begins with our need to expand our domain and conquer, subjugate, or even eliminate others in an effort to do this, example: the first Americans and subsequently the northern half of what used to be Mexico under Manifest Destiny and extending our area of freedom. This becomes evident in modern times after World War II as we embed our military in Japan and Europe to quell future uprisings. We worked our own magic by having the CIA train the very people who oppose us now in an effort to disrupt the Soviets. All this under the noble principles as territorial and administrative integrity, and saving the world for democracy. And while we don’t colonize places like Latin America, we enjoy the bitter fruits of corporate sponsored policing every time we go to the grocery store.
As to our current predicament, do you honestly think that if we elected Ketchup Boy that we would be any better off? We probably wouldn’t be in Iraq, but we’d probably be in Darfur that much sooner. Oh joy, we could have Bosnia all over again.
Our founding fathers knew damn well what they were doing when they established this nation. They created an empire. The only difference is they created a set of rules for competition among the elitist. Yet giving the illusion of a representative republic to pacify the masses. Worse yet, we are the instruments of our own demise. We get to elect our elitist, and passively give them the power to control us. Christians and especially Mormons are fools to think this is God’s country and that the Constitution is a divinely inspired document. It is just another means to put the establishment over the people.
So, now I retire to my dark foreboding corner. I watch and laugh as our two prevalent parties and their following citizens (sheep) go back and forth. “Impeach Bush”, “Ted Kennedy should remove himself from office”, and all the other debacle that goes along with it. It doesn’t matter what we do, and we don’t make a difference.
I love peace activists, they make us ripe for conquest. I love war mongers, they have no conscience. If I had any sense of idealistic hope, I’d say we need a balance of both. The war mongers to defend us and keep things in check, and the peace activists to keep the war mongers from going overboard. And that’s only because I’m no idealistic enough to believe in world peace. I go back to laughing now. :))

I agree with most of what you say, cybr. I doubt that the founders really had an empire in mind when the country was new. The colonies were lucky that the British had other things to attend to and that the French stepped in to assist. They probably would have had their asses handed to them otherwise. Anyone thinking about a large empire at the time was probably being unrealistically hopeful.
That doesn’t change the fact that we have become an empire. I can’t shake the idea that this conflict in Iraq is the end of our time on top of the heap. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if we can refocus on protecting our own borders and our own liberties rather than foolishly trying to transplant liberal democracies in stony ground. Losing empire will probably mean that we won’t be so filthy rich when compared to everyone else, but that’s OK. I think becoming more interdependent with other nations will be a good thing all around.
I just hope we don’t have to revolt against a new Emperor of the United States.
