Among the R-rated movies that I found most inspiring before leaving the church (but after realizing that there never really was a ban on R-rated movies) were Schindler's List, The Pianist, and The Passion of the Christ. I'm not sure how I'd feel about the last title if I were to watch it again today.

Since then, many movies inspired me that I didn't expect, like The Matrix and Blade Runner. I've been missing a lot.

I am also seriously catching up on R-rated films. It is a blast. Obviously, I still have limits, and avoid totally trashy stuff, but R-rated films really tend to be better than films of safer ratings. The world is a pretty serious, sometimes nasty, sometimes mean place and R-rated films are often rated such because of that. I am inspired and touched more by many R-rated films than I ever have been watching anything else.

And it's ridiculous to think that if something is PG-13 it is OK to watch. Some PG-13 films are the most flimsy, trashy, shallow movies ever.

Somehow, I have not watched The Godfather yet but plan to do so very soon.

My favorite R-rated films thus far have been Wes Anderson's work. Love it.

My youngest has incredibly long ring fingers as I discovered last night. They beat mine for sure. I expect her to earn a Fields Medal. :)

Kullervo, I knew there was something special about you. ;) My wife has cute, adorable little toes that are useless… except for the whole standing upright thing. Pfft.

I have the same awesome mutant toes! My wife thinks they're disgusting, but can she pick things up with her feet? I don't think so.

I never knew my husband's ring fingers were longer than his index fingers.
He passed on the toes and the long ring fingers to our girls. So freaky, but maybe they'll be math geniuses.
